Patrick Waterson

Patrick Waterson is Professor of Human Factors and Complex Systems at Loughborough University. He has published widely in the field of safety science and human factors/ergonomics. His work within patient safety focuses on incident investigation and analysis, safety culture and human error. His current focus is on the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning to support maternity incident investigations, particularly as they applied to ethnic minorities. In 2021 Professor Waterson was awarded the International Ergonomics Association (IEA)/Elsevier John Wilson Award 2021 – the award recognizes major contributions in the field of applied ergonomics to the actual design of work, systems, technologies and environment, which lead to improvements in system performance and well-being. He currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of the journal ‘Ergonomics’.
